Peat moss is a dead fibrous material that forms when mosses and other living plant materials decompose underwater. Glacial movement across Northwest Montana created our high mountain swamp that provides an environment for peat production through the natural underwater decomposition of native plants.

Peat is a soil amendment that increases water holding capacity and nutrient retention in soil. Peat moss adds excellent moisture retention for gardens, plants, trees, and potted flowers or vegetables. Peat moss softens the structure of clay soils to prevent compaction and improves drainage.

Some potting soil is a mix of forest products, sewer sludge, compost, and other materials. Our potting soil is a mix of natural hypnum and reed sedge peat, perlite, and fertilizers. We offer a registered organic potting soil mix as well.
